In the US this weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer and usually seems to have crappy weather. This year it was amazingly different.
It was gorgeous day and about 95 degrees (that would be about 35c for my fahrenheit challenged friends) and cancer level sunny. I have a great start on my jeep tan which is a nice golden brown with a white seatbelt stripe diagonally across my chest. We were out driving around the NE boonies area of the Detroit Metro part of Michigan, if you are from the area that would be Romeo, Oakland Township, Addison Township, Leonard, etc say around 37 mile and Dequindre.
I actually saw a Lamborghini Countach driving around in Romeo which is odd like you wouldn’t believe, that area is a 1975 Ford pickup truck area, not an Italian super sportcar area. The roads out in there about knock your teeth out in my jeep, I can’t imagine how the suspension of the Countach felt. I am surprised the ground effects were still on the car.
That area is host to a bunch of old Michigan red-necks, country folks, and farming families as well as several folks with well-endowed bank accounts such as hockey players, basketball players, Automotive Industry Execs, and Kid Rock. For the most part, Kid Rock fits in much better than the hockey/basketball players and Execs. It is a very rural area and quite gorgeous. There were lots of horses, cows, chipmunks, white-tailed deer, sheep, goats, swans, ducks, geese, etc etc etc. It is quite interesting because you will be driving along a nice road which is close to being only a two-track and seeing old[1] farmhouses with hundreds of acres of corn and then bam a giant 10,000 sq foot brick mansion that was built next week with acres upon acres of manicured rolling lawn (how long does that take to mow???).
I am out there driving around looking for some property, I would like to find 25-250 acres to build on. Unfortunately I doubt I can afford 250 acres but would really like it. :) Maybe I will get lucky and find some farmer who wants to sell but doesn’t want his family property turned into a subdivision so willing to sell for a lot less to get that guarantee. Not sure if there are any farmers in SE Michigan area who have hundreds of acres they would like me to have that read this blog, but if so, email me! My goals are not to buy a bunch of property and build a subdivision, quite the contrary, I want several hundred acres to build a house and a nice big pole barn in the middle of it and have lots of trees and wildlife and horses. Oh and also to ride dirt bikes around like an idiot too…

Your hopefully future home with the trees and horses and dirtbikes sounds like so much fun =)
I’m hoping for something similar in the future.. Not anytime soon though. I’m still too young to give up the city.
