North America International Auto Show 2007

by @ 12:11 am on 1/22/2007.

I attended the NAIAS again this year, went down today for a couple of hours. It was a good break and nice relaxation prior to driving 4-5 hours tomorrow to a customer site.

There were only 5 vehicles that really caught my eye…

The first was this cool throwback… It was swamped with people so I couldn’t get to the data sheet to find any info for it

The second was the Camaro concept… very pretty

Though I am hearing that it is going to be like $60k if they produce it… That is ridiculous especially when you consider the history of the camaro.

I was also really impressed with the Passion Purple Dodge Charger SuperBee, the Mustang Cobra GT500, and the Porsche Cayenne. I don’t have pictures of those because you couldn’t get a picture of those cars without getting about 40 people in front of you ruining the photo since they weren’t roped off. I could see myself trading my Jeep Rubicon in and getting either the Charger or the GT500… They looked like a lot of fun. The Cayenne would be nice but I am not sure if I could justify to myself to spend $60k on a vehicle. $80k for a Corvette…. Hahahahaha, very pretty car… but no.

Other than that, I was impressed with a lot of the technology but the styling from pretty much all of the manufacturers is pretty bad. I do not like the new jeeps which sucks because I have had two Jeep Wranglers and loved both of them, I said that before though. I also, sadly, don’t like the new Dodge Rams either which is big since I have had 5 new Dodge Rams since about 1998 as I have loved every model. The headlights and taillights looked pretty bad. The front end is getting more Dakota like… FYI, the Dakotas were screwed up a few years ago when they made the front end all blocky, they did the same to the Durango plus made it look like a mini-van about the same time they screwed up the Dakota. Ford really screwed up the Focus this year. The Edge looks nice but is too large. The F Series trucks all pretty much suck for styling. But they have for some time now (F-150’s have sucked a long time, the F-250’s just started sucking) but I didn’t care because the Ram’s looked good. I haven’t liked the GM trucks in forever though their SUVs haven’t been too bad, GM messed them up now though because the front ends all look like space ships. Sadly the H1’s (Hummer) are no more and all that are left are the H2’s and H3’s which aren’t even a shadow of the H1; they are a GM Pickup truck with a bad boob job . A small accident and those things get shredded, they aren’t tough, they are just designed to look that way. I didn’t even go and look at the Land Rovers, I do like their styling in general but that company gets eaten up with warranty issues.

Are you into any of the Japanese cars or do you buy American for the most part?

  2. Roland Says:

the throwback is from OZ, modelled on the old FJ holden

    Joe,
It’s called the Efijy, a retro creation based on Holdens (Aus) FJ series sedan from the early ’50’s. There was an article in our local electronics mag from last year I can send you if you’re interested. It had plenty of photos and explained how the electrical systems were controlled by picaxe micro controllers.
Consider it a down payment on all the work adfind & admod has saved me.
