Comcast High Speed – not so good

by @ 10:23 am on 10/19/2007. Filed under house stuff

Ok, I have had a bit of time to do some downloading with my new Comcast High Speed connection, compared to (Wide Open West) WOW, it is pretty bad. I don’t even need speed tests to show it because it is that noticeable. Anyway the speed tests could be bad for comparison as Comcast could be faking those numbers out with local caching etc. Next big download from MSFT and I will know for sure how much slower this is, but I am not looking forward to downloading the next Longhorn update I can tell you…

So what can I say… Ugh.

There is a meeting next week for townshipwide wireless access, I am going to be there to hear who they use for their internet connectivity. Also I can say, if you live in an area that has WOW available, I would jump to WOW immediately.

Watch out with those douche bags, rumor has it that 90 gigs a month is what they cap you at, calling you an excessive user and possibly suspending your account. Maybe you would be ok with HTTP traffic, but god forbid you are a usenet freak.

Weird.. I get 1MB/sec. In the past, I’ve gotten 2-3MB. I’m pretty happy with my speeds.

I’ve also never had a problem with P2P and I’m a decently heavy user. Not to the tune of 90 GB a month but I don’t really know anyone who is.

The Nov 20 issue of PC magazine backs up what you are saying. It is their annual reader’s choice issue. WOW Internet came in second and won the Reader’s choice award. Comcast came in 3rd to last and received a double down arrow (significantly worse than average)

I also use Comcast and it will be interesting to see how Comcast responds to the recent criticism of them limiting bandwidth. I’m just hoping that Verizon FiOS comes to my area soon.
