Happy Valentine’s Day

by @ 2:02 am on 2/14/2008.

It is a hallmark holiday in my opinion, you should tell the people you care about in that special way all the time and shouldn’t need a special day to remind you to do it. But just the same, Happy Valentine’s day to you all.

Want to do it the right way, get a $1 card for the day and give it to your loved one (or ones if you should lean that way) or maybe make a card. But give flowers or anything else on some other day. Preferably days or weeks before or after Valentine’s Day to show that you aren’t doing it FOR Valentines Day. Then make sure to repeat a few times throughout the year on other days that also are not holidays.

I personally love flowers and love sending them. But don’t much like doing it on Valentine’s Day. Too easy to expect them and too easy to remember to do it then. Show your love and send those roses on the Ides of March or a week or two or three before or after Valentines Day. Wait what? You don’t send flowers? Why not? First off they are pretty, do your part and bring more prettiness to the normal world. Second off, you don’t have to send roses, send carnations or something else less expensive. Heck go pick some wildflowers somewhere and show up on the doorstep delivering them yourself. If you don’t like killing the flowers, then go find a flowering plant and give that. Regardless I think flowers are great because they serve no other realistic purpose than to say to someone that they are are so important to you that you did something that was entirely about and for them that was good for the “now” and just so they have beauty near them and to make them smile.

I agree with you, Joe, but I did something really special for my girlfriend this Valentine’s Day. My girlfriend loves to get flowers at work because, well, she works in an office with other women. I had ordered some a while back from FTD. They were nice, but I got a lecture.

Seems that my girlfriend works in the bridal event business and has a bunch of florist contacts that she told me to call directly in the future. So, for Valentine’s Day, I contacted one and spent a little coin. What she got was truly incredible. She told me that a bride would have spent $400 on the arrangement that she got (I spent a quarter of that). There were two dozen roses, two dozen tulips, and a bunch of other flowers. The babe’s breath was arranged into a heart that went over the top of the arrangement. I never saw it because I sent it to her office, but from the reaction I got it had to be the most impressive arrangement ever.

The only reason she got something that incredible was because of the industry she works in. The arrangement was being delivered to her work and brides to be come into their office. But, I did out do what every other woman in the office got for Valentine’s Day, and I made my girlfriend very happy.
