Pat: Mike, I’m calling you from the freeway on my new cell phone.
Mike: Be careful, Pat. They just said on the radio that there is a nut driving the wrong way on the freeway.
Pat: One nut? Hell, there are hundreds of them!

Change course…

The lookout on a battleship spies a light ahead off the starboard bow. The captain tells him to signal the other vessel, “Advise you change course twenty degrees immediately!”
The answer comes back, “Advise you change course twenty degrees immediately!”
The captain is furious. He signals, “I am a captain. We are on a collision course. Alter [...]

A blind man, a Lesbian, and a frog walk into a bar. The barkeep looks up at them and says, “What is this… a joke?”

You are not supposed to be happy… It’s JAIL!

This morning on the Fox 2 news in Detroit there was a report that the 50 year old refrigerator at the Macomb County Jail had mold in it and had to be shut down. That meant that prisoners had to be fed bologna sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and the prisoners were complaining… [...]

VMLite

This looks pretty cool, XP Mode virtualization without the dreaded hardware virtualization support requirement…
I poked around the web site, couldn’t tell what their business model is supposed to be. Do they intend to just give this away?

I found this to be an interesting article. I was really interested in the part about Heap Shimming via Fault Tolerant Heap (FTH). Of course my first thought was cool, how do you get a list of apps that this is being applied to. Up until today I had only found a command to clear [...]

In a previous blog entry (http://blog.joeware.net/2009/12/05/1826/) I mentioned a need for some software for the Storm Chasers… A person (name withheld to protect the guilty) sent me a nice informative email on some of this stuff and I wanted to share parts of it… Note I did ask for permission first…

Using DNS Aliases on Windows Machines.

by @ Friday, December 18th, 2009. Filed under tech

I regularly get asked about people adding CNAMEs to DNS to set up an alias for a Windows machine. Like maybe the machine name is server123site5 and they want to call it oldserver1. They do that and all of a sudden when they try to use it the connection attempt results in a “duplicate name [...]

I haven’t tried this but think I will start recommending it to any and everyone that says their PC is taking forever to start up. Every time I look at those machines they tend to have a bazillion apps that start on logon.

Funny article. I actually find my iPhone to be the most useful phone I have had. But then I mostly use it for the apps. I rarely talk to anyone on the phone (I used 2 minutes on it last month) and I don’t text at all. Period. None. Mostly it is used for Google [...]

Ten years ago today, Windows 2000 and hence Active Directory were released to manufacturing!!!
Today Active Directory is the de facto LDAP directory and the de facto Kerberos implementation… I.E. There are more AD LDAP directories and more AD Kerberos environments out there than any other LDAP directory and Kerberos implementations.

Anyone involved with the Discovery Channel Storm Chasers reading this?

by @ Saturday, December 5th, 2009. Filed under general

I have the Discovery Channel Storm Chasers show on for background while working on something else. I don’t purposely watch this show normally but when it happens to be on, I leave it on because it is interesting.
After two episodes in a row I started thinking, they really need to tie all of these [...]
