So here I am at the end of day one of the Directory Experts Conference. Today was about a “disaster recovery” live session which included several labs. My plan was to spend the day in bed until my hotel I was in Sat night kicked me out the door however the night before my friend Dean convinced me to go against my desire and get up at the crack of dawn and check out of my hotel and make my way the 20-30-40 minutes by cab or so to get to Green Valley Resort. In fact, I made it to Green Valley prior to Dean coming down from his room so I did quite well, though I still missed the bed at the Westin. I have to say that even though the hotel wasn’t, well, lets put it this way, it wasn’t the Venetian, the bed was amazing. If you haven’t stayed at a Westin, you need to, though if in Vegas, you would do better to stay at the Venetian or Caesar’s Palace, Mandalay Bay, or the Luxor. But anywhere else in the US, check out the Westin, well if in downtown New York, stay at the Marriot Marquis, but other wise, yes otherwise, the Westin is what you want because the beds surround you and make you feel incredibly welcome. And the next thing you know is that is the morning and you don’t want to get out of the bed.
So anyway the lab was rocky but seemed to go ok I guess. Dean and I had to leave early to flesh out the best parts of our presentation and chop it down. We chopped it from about 155-160 slides to 162 slides but thankfully a lot of that is appendix and anyway, we don’t figure to make it through all of the cool info prior to being cut off anyway. Now it is a matter of figuring out what we would hurt the most about if it was cut.
After the labs and working on the pres with Dean, we had a poolside meet and greet which was quite nice. Chatting with a bunch of folks I haven’t seen in quite since the DEC last year. There was a magician who tried to lift my watch and failed, I tried hard to not notice him trying to take it off which took an actual effort but he still couldn’t get it off my wrist. I understand as I have trouble getting it off my own wrist as well. 🙂 We figured out several of the illusioins but he did a very cool floating card trick and while some claim to have seen a string or something I was right next to him and I saw nothing, it was quite cool.
So I am off to sleep. Tomorrow is our presentation so that should be interesting. We will have 130 or so non-appendix slides hoping to get through say 100 and then actually probably only getting through 30 or 40 as we expect to field questions throughout the pres. If there is anything we both realized is that we enjoy better a two way full communication street. I am not much into just telling people what they should have or should be doing without them at least talking back and saying I am on dope or something. We hope the material is cool and tried to make it so, lots of digging down into previously undug areas for this info.
More later.

I liked the presentation, would have been better if you were allocated a whole morning, not just an hour 🙂
Excellent thanks. I am glad you enjoyed it.
