Something I like to do a week or so prior to going on the road for work is to update my work laptop with the latest work updates, etc that they like to send down. Something that surpises nearly everyone I work with is that I keep my work laptop almost 100% completely work standard (I loaded some joeware tools, ADAM, and Virtual PC/Server). I don’t wipe the corporate load and put my own stuff down, etc. This has never done me wrong…. until now.

Last Wed or so I VPNed into the corporate network and allowed it to receive updates. It got a bunch of stuff most of which I don’t know about and it went through its little reboot. Then after the reboot I go to connect to the VPN again and low and behold authentication failures… Hmm I go to my machine I normally connect to work with and it connects just fine… Uh oh. After several days and using Windows check point feature I am still sitting here going uh oh.

So how is joe spending Easter? Unloading and reloading software on his work laptop so he can work tomorrow writing blog entries while waiting through the (un)installs and reboots. 🙂

Worse comes to worse I will VPN back home (thay doesn’t use the crappy Nortel software and is actually working fine), TS into my normal work machine, then VPN into the work network. That would be a bit distant from what I would consider optimal though. Especially considering when I was out in LV for DEC the network connectivity was so poor at Green Valley I couldn’t sustain a decent VPN back home.

So what does this tell me? Maybe I do want to run my own self configured setup on the work laptop.
