Looking for a job?

by @ 9:08 pm on 7/17/2006. Filed under tech

I was pinged about two positions inside of Microsoft today…. I didn’t want either of the jobs but am willing to redirect others to the folks involved.

The first is Microsoft looking for Rapid Response Engineers for Windows Server 2003 Migration and Directory Services. This is for the PSS teams in NYC, SF, and LA/Irving California. The positions require deep troubleshooting experience, 24×7 coverage, and 70% travel with overnight stays. If you think you fit the bill, email me and I will put you in touch with that headhunter. I don’t know what the salary is for those positions other than it doesn’t exceed $1,000,000 USD because I actually asked as I am old now and 70% travel is a lot for my old bones and if I am going to do that much travel, I am going to get paid for it. 🙂  I have found there are few issues that I can’t generally work out from my home anyway, I have access to far more resources here than anywhere else in the world, including when I need it, Windows OS source code access.

The second I was pinged on through IM from a friend in Alliance support in PSS. The position is with Microsoft PSS in SE Michigan (yes if you don’t live here you would have to move here full time) working as a full time on-customer-site Exchange troubleshooting engineer. The position requires a deep tech person preferably with amazing experience in Exchange and AD at the true enterprise level (couple of hundred thousand seats) and tends to be one of considerable stress. The proper person could possibly draw up to a 6 figure income from Microsoft but will be a target and needs to be very knowledgeable and quick thinking so will earn every penny of that money. On the plus side the person who previously did the job was kind of a boob in my opinion so it shouldn’t be amazingly difficult to show him up technically. However, this was a friend who asked me about it and it is with friends that this person will work so I will only refer people who I know first hand and know of their accomplishments directly. Sorry, but I am extremely particular about who I recommend for things. Simply saying this person is worth watching or checking out isn’t enough for me to recommend them for a job.

–Do you work from home now and just go out to customer sites when you are needed? I can see why you don’t want to leave that setup if that’s the case.

    Hi Mike,

That is exactly what I do. I consider travel to be a considerable expense on my employeer and try to keep it to a minimum when I do have to trave. This is for their and my benefit but there certainly have been cases where I learned of an issue and would feel I needed to be onsite and would be there within 24 hours.
