So weather.com says it is 97 degrees with a heat index temp of 107…
They are lying. Every thermometer I have seen today when I went out to the bookstore for lunch showed 100+ and even my trusty car thermostat said 101. Plus, I had the A/C cranked 100% and you couldn’t even feel the cool air blowing out while driving. Granted, the top is off and the windows are down, but still, I should at least feel some sort of cool breeze…. Not when it is this hot it isn’t. All I have to say is that I am glad for my Filipino heritage both for my nice warm mocha tan (yes a computer person who isn’t pastey white!!!) and the fact that I don’t easily overheat.
Got the electric bill for the last month, $205. Actually though I was pretty happy, I would have bet $305 if I had to guess because the A/C is running at least once per hour. I may have to shave the chinchilla’s and toss them into the bathtub so I can turn the thermostat up to 80. 🙂
Oh about the melting pavement, coming back from Border’s and Barnes and Noble I saw a business that had over half of their parking lot roped off with signs saying DO NOT PARK and you look at the parking lot and it looks like it is collapsing into the ground… In front of the parking lot there was another sign that said NO HEAVY TRUCKS ALLOWED. That will teach them for using pavement instead of concrete… How much is a concrete parking lot versus turning away more than half your customers for days on end? I guess it depends on the business but that specific business has tons of profit and is busiest in the summer when kids are out of school and could only hold maybe 200 cars instead of the normal 600 or so I would guestimate it could hold.

Weather.com and most other Internet weather sites report a localized temperature, most of the time at an elementary school or some such.
Want a temperature horror story? I got one for you: my server room is now at 95-degrees. Yes, 95.
Holy crap. That isn’t fun. Turn the A/C back on.
