2007 Grammies

Congrats to the Dixie Chicks! I love seeing Freedom of Speech validated.

Go Shakira and Christina Aguilera… Shakira had a great little stage show, I doubt she ever has to work out when she is on tour… Christina blew everyone off the stage. What pipes… The amount of sound that comes out of that tiny frame is amazing.

The Corinne Bailey Rae, John Legend, and John Mayer segment was quite good as well. I love John Mayer’s playing but his presentation when playing something soulful is disturbing. 🙂

The Police opened the show… it was ok, I think the hype of The Police reuniting was bigger than the delivery unfortunately. Sting did look good for being almost 60 though.

Parts of the show I could have done without… The Country Rock Tribute but only the part by Rascal Flatts, they murdered the Eagles songs they tried to play, especially Hotel California. Carrie Underwood did a great job though. And Mary J Blige – wasn’t thrilled with her singing or her fur.

Now Joe, what happened to the poxy Dixie Chicks has nothing to do with their Freedom of Speech being invalidated! They say something brain-dead and stupid, they pay for it; fans stopped buying their albums and attending their concerts. What does that have to do with Freedom of Speech?

By the way, only the Government is entity restrained by the First Amendment. As a private citizen, I can tell you to shut the fuck up if I don’t like what you’re saying. First Amendment doesn’t apply there–do I really have to explain that to you?

As for the Grammys being awarded them for political reasons, fuck man, what does that have to do with music??

    Fred,
What Bush, the military leaders and Congress did (sans Barbara Lee) was “brain dead and stupid.” It’s mind boggling that people still see any wrong in Natalie Maines expressing herself; I don’t care which country it was in. And what a joke that was.. people even acted like that was an issue. They invented technicalities for the sake of argument.

Five companies control 95% of what’s seen and heard in America and each played at least some part in shutting the Dixie Chicks out. Yet artists speaking in favor of the war are embraced and given a voice. That’s just dangerous.

The Dixie Chicks’ album was without a doubt their personal best and one of the best commercial albums of the year, even if you’ll never listen to it. They were rewarded for their musical abilities even though they were given next to no radio play. And that’s what Joe was alluding to.
