I don’t quite understand why Intel is buying 9.5 million shares… Anyone understand that?

Intel’s interest is probably:
a.) pushing virtualization as a technology overall since it means demand for more powerfull CPUs with integrated VM enhancement technologies;
b.) they want to help ensure MS doesn’t gain a monopoly share of that technology/market, so an investment in VMWare could help;
Chances are Intel sees how important virtualization is and will become as we move forward and sees a good investment opportunity 😉
Just some quick thoughts.

Hi
Anything they do to make a greater demand for virtuals benefits them and their IVT chip technology. Spend x here to make x+ later is the thinking, I believe. That and the inside track to what vmware is doing , and the board seat doesn’t hurt either 🙂

Henry|WSN: Great points.
