I went looking for something I knew existed previously and I’ll be darned if I could find it, took me a good 3 hours of looking to dig it up and it should have been 3 minutes… That got me to thinking, is there an Active Directory WIKI out there? I looked around and couldn’t find one. Anyone know of one? I saw that the domain name adwiki.com is taken and has been registered since 2004 and is expired so not much happening there. 😉
If not I think I will set up a publicly editable WIKI site for Active Directory driven by MediaWiki software.
Let me know your thoughts people!
joe
I’m not aware of one , but I think it would be very useful. Can’t always fall back on Joe and the Directory Services Team blog.
There is a MS Wiki
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/275.wiki-technologies-portal.aspx
Biju: I am thinking more comprehensive that lists out locations all over the web that has sources of information and tools, etc. Certainly there will be links into the MSFT site as there is good content there, but there is also a lot of good content elsewhere that MSFT may be reluctant to allow to be on their wiki based on what kind of statement that could make. Aside from that, the AD wiki at MSFT is pretty light with some basic overviews of the topics.

Sounds like a good idea to me. 🙂
I’d love to see one!
joe, I think it would be a very valuable resource. Especially for mentoring new engineers and other folks we want to help climb the IT food chain.
We have done something like this internally, but I’d love to see what you create.
Well I would just set it up to host it, it wouldn’t be the case of me writing a book via a public domain wiki. I will certainly add things, but I would expect to provide a small percentage of the content.
I am though looking at the MSFT WIKI a little closer to see if it will work. I was told offline that it is ok to post info and links concerning other vendors etc… I am still a little not sure about that though and would hate to go through the work of putting info up there and then having it disappear.
I think it would be a great idea Joe. There is a lot of stuff that is far too hard to find quickly.
Please do..
Great Idea.. let’s do it
+1
Excellent idea Joe! def do it and will be glad to contribute.
Question: How will you stop it from becoming another powershell script repository? (not that that will necessarily be a bad thing). It seems that’s what it will fill up with most.
Great idea. There are a lot of good sources of information out there and cataloging / clarifying / classifying it all is a good start. I’d be happy to participate.
