by @ Wednesday, January 8th, 2014. Filed under tech

My DVD burner in my Dell Studio 1749 failed so I had to replace it. I figured, this should be easy. I looked online and found a cheap drive on eBay for $17, it got to me in a couple of days. Replacing DVD drives is something I have done in previous HP laptops quickly […]

New Server for the joeware Facility

by @ Sunday, October 6th, 2013. Filed under tech

I am starting to look around for servers to replace Super Fast Virtual Mofo (SFVM) which hosts all of my virtual machines. I haven’t looked seriously at hardware in many years, actually since I built SFVM in 2007. As you may have noticed by how quiet it has been around here I have been exceptionally […]

by @ Thursday, September 5th, 2013. Filed under tech

I recall sharing how to extend an Active Directory user’s password expiration previously somewhere, probably on the ActiveDir Org list but perhaps even in this blog… I don’t remember exactly where. This topic popped up in my head this morning because I saw via twitter (@joewaredotnet) that someone released a tool called "AD Password Extender" […]

Are you using Google Chrome with DirectAccess and it recently broke on you???

by @ Thursday, August 1st, 2013. Filed under tech

Google apparently broke some IPv6 DNS lookup functionality in the latest rev of Chrome (v28.x) and folks who were using it to tunnel into corporate networks via DirectAccess suddenly stopped working. The simplest fix is to add the switch "–enable-ipv6" to the shortcut. Things should work great after that. Rating 4.00 out of 5

Using PowerShell Get-ADGroup Question…

by @ Wednesday, July 31st, 2013. Filed under tech

So I am trying to duplicate the output of a very simple AdFind command to locate a universal group and enumerate the members in a simple quoted DN format. I want identical output to the console or perhaps I could live without the quotes. The AdFind command looks like: adfind -gcb -f "displayname=some group displayname" […]
