2057

by @ Monday, February 5th, 2007. Filed under tech

Discovery channel had an interesting little series of shows on called 2057. I can’t say I agree with all of the predictions but it is an interesting show just the same. They have a web site for the show with more info http://www.discovery.com/2057 Rating 3.00 out of 5

Vista is VERY memory quality sensitive…

by @ Saturday, February 3rd, 2007. Filed under tech

I think I mentioned a while back but if not I loaded Vista Ultimate on my 17″ HP laptop shortly after Vista went RTM. Well I was getting a non-occasional opportunity 🙂 to experience the exciting “Blue Screen of Death” (BSD) with no common cause, it was all over the map. When I ran the laptop on the […]

AdFind -ASQ and Unavailable Critical Extension

by @ Thursday, February 1st, 2007. Filed under tech

So one of my old MCS friends who is no longer with MCS and is now doing real admin work has admitted that he loves AdFind and depends on it daily. That makes me smile. What makes me smile even more is when he runs into things that I used to bitch about to him […]

Hey I don’t want quotes in AdFind’s CSV output….

by @ Thursday, February 1st, 2007. Filed under tech

I keep getting pinged on this so I will likely add a switch like -csvnoq or something like that… In the meanwhile if you don’t want quotes in your AdFind CSV output use -csvq “” which literally tells adfind to use null for the quoting character. You need to be careful with this though, the […]

What’s an hour between friends (or replication partners)?

by @ Wednesday, January 31st, 2007. Filed under tech

There is lots of chatter lately about the whole Daylight Savings Time “blah” where “blah” is whatever it is you want to call it – hubbub, scare, whatever. I don’t know what to call it other than blah but it certainly is causing far more trouble than its worth. I am getting pinged with quite […]

DV8000 Update

by @ Thursday, January 18th, 2007. Filed under tech

I decided to upgrade the hard drive for the DV8000 as well as add the second drive that it would accept. I ordered a pair of Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 drives… 7200 RPM 100GB drives… As for the drives themselves… Wow wow wow… Very fast. Rate out as a 5.1 for Vista’s experience rating. Something disappointing […]

AdFind R00lz – or…. How To Get canonicalName Attribute and Misc Chatter about Constructed Attributes.

by @ Thursday, January 18th, 2007. Filed under tech

I receive a lot of of emails with questions and I am slowly catching up to those questions (yes I have emails from December I still haven’t processed…). One of the questions was about an attribute most people don’t really seem to know about – canonicalName. What is canonicalName you ask? It is like a […]

Way to go Microsoft – new RDP Client

by @ Wednesday, January 17th, 2007. Filed under tech

I have had a wide screen laptop for some time. One major issue I had with it when using RDP to connect to a remote machine was when I would go from full screen mode to windowed mode and then tried to go back to full screen mode it would chop off the sides like […]

So you think you know AD? The Answer.

by @ Saturday, January 13th, 2007. Filed under tech

So I am a little disappointed at the turnout over the responses to the previous “So you think you know AD?” post. Only M@ was willing to step up and post a public comment and I received about 11 offline responses all saying about the same thing – basically not possible unless some network trickery is […]

So you think you know AD?

by @ Friday, January 12th, 2007. Filed under tech

I was working on a new utility for a little while this evening because I have been thinking about it and my mind needed to get some of it down into c++ code… Anyway, I started thinking of different what if situations and came up with a question that I was curious how people would […]
