by @ Sunday, November 5th, 2006. Filed under tech

If you manage, integrate, or develop code for Windows PCs in a business environment; you will want to read this document I am linking to below. I am not sure if it is at 100% yet as there were a couple of things mentioned that I don’t believe were correct, but it should be required reading […]

Two cool Microsoft tools for developers / integrators

by @ Sunday, November 5th, 2006. Filed under tech

Microsoft Standard User Analyzer – This tool will help you identify issues in programs that make it so an application can’t run as a normal user. Very detailed. This was floating around for some time, I recall seeing one of the early revs of this tool several years ago at a special Microsoft Security MVP summit and we […]

Virtualizing Domain Controllers

by @ Wednesday, November 1st, 2006. Filed under tech

Gary Olsen wrote a very good, IMO, article on virtualizing domain controllers for SearchWinIT / TechTarget. You can see it here http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid1_gci1227204,00.html?track=NL-118&ad=568999&asrc=EM_NLN_693996&uid=320601 He touches on a lot of the points and pitfalls around doing this… In general, I am not for virtualizing DCs in production except in very specific well defined cases. Those specific cases […]

More Oracle Red Hat Linux stuff…

by @ Tuesday, October 31st, 2006. Filed under tech

Wow… I was reading the Oracle PDFs about this new support and saw this Transition is very easy. Existing Red Hat and Novell Linux customers that move to the Unbreakable Linux support program may receive credit for the remainder of their existing support contract. For example, if a Red Hat customer has a support contract […]

The rumours are tearing across the internet… Vista is in the box. MSFT is alleged to have artifically bumped the build number to 6000…. As one unidentified friend quipped “kinda silly to bump the build # like that I think”, I have to say I agree… But it is kind of fun, wish they could slip another […]

Sharepoint WTF?

by @ Friday, October 27th, 2006. Filed under tech

I was pinged on a question today about Sharepoint, an app I have never had to deal with. Well the question was how to easily resync Sharepoint after a user object changes… for instance, email, displayname, domain, or userid… I was like what? Why would it need to do that if it is all in […]

by @ Wednesday, October 18th, 2006. Filed under tech

IE7 is coming… Microsoft is releasing IE7 this month and when it does it will be forcing it down as a high priority update to help get people secured. IE7 is not your momma’s IE… It has changed significantly, different look, different feel. You may be an IE “expert” now, you likely won’t after the […]
