LiveWriter

I have to say this tool is pretty cool and it certainly makes blogging easier. I am loving it, great job Microsoft. 🙂

Things that could use work, not in any particular order. 🙂

  • Use F7 instead of shift-F7 to spell check.
  • On a seemingly regular basis the display will jump around.
  • I would like Font choice available from the tool bar. Actually I would like to customize the tool bar as I choose.
  • I would like a “code” or “pre” HTML tag formatting option on the tool bar.
  • I don’t like that it opens a new window every time you select create new post. Use tabs or the same window or ask which way I want it.

  1. Wait a second, are you lost? I thought that Live was not for you (per a conversation we had a long time ago)? Why are you using a tool that is part of the Live wave? 🙂

    Ah but LiveWriter isn’t web based. You will recall my complaint was about web based tools. This is a local application that I can specifically tell to go out to my personal website. It is, in effect, simply an editor. My thing is about the Live services. I still think we are a bit early in the deployment of broadband to the world in general and rural america in particular for Live to be overally useful to anyone anywhere but in the cities. Plus I don’t see myself using someone else’s servers like that to hold my information.

  3. * F7 instead of Shift+F7 – will be fixed in the next release.
    * Display jumping around… can you elaborate? Does the whole window move around or just contents within the editing control?
    * Is the font you’re looking for Courier New? We discourage font usage since you don’t know whether the client has the same fonts installed (or if they’re even using a web browser, as opposed to an RSS reader, most of which strip formatting). Better to use the semantically correct HTML tag; in the fixed-width case, it’s TT.
    * Code/Pre, yeah, so would I. 🙂
    * New window every time: yeah, that bothers me too. It’s high on the wishlists of many users.

    Joe:
    Cool thanks for the info.

    For the window jumping it is the contents within the window. It doesn’t always do it, just occasionally I will be looking at something, click in the window and all of a sudden I am looking at text from some other part of the entry that I wasn’t previously looking at.

    On the font choice, I would just like to be able to click on a button for font choice instead of going to Format then Font. I found a happy medium at the moment by using keyboard shortcuts. Alt – O – F
