I have been wanting a deck on the back of the house now for about 5 years and have been actually in a position[1] to build one but putting it off for one busy reason or another for 2 years. I finally realized that I wasn’t going to be be able to build it myself again this year so swallowed my pride and asked my neighbor if he would be willing to build it for me. He is a construction worker and the deck he built for his house is an amazing multilevel beast with storage underneath etc…. I figure it will be easy for him since I want just this side of amazing; basically a simple single level ~11×22 deck off the back of my house (back of the house is ~26 ft wide) with a simple set of steps. He quoted me something that sounded reasonable especially considering I wasn’t getting it done myself so I said go for it…
He started this last weekend and has been tearing it up. If you live in the SE Michigan area and you want me to put you in touch with my neighbor “Vern”, then let me know. He also hangs drywall…
Here is a picture as it stands now. I expect it will be done by this weekend which is “beauty eh”. I have to admit, this picture doesn’t do it justice, it is much bigger in person. 😉 Once that is done I visualize maybe a couple of multi-step flower boxes on the right side of the deck and some nice chairs and a small lawn table.
[1] I.E. No major initiatives that would destroy it once built.
