Seattle next week…

For anyone who knows me that will be in Seattle next week, I will also be there. I am going out there for the Microsoft MVP summit which will be in session. The summit is a great time to meet up with MVPs and Microsoft folks I normally only exchange emails with and get to see/hear the latest and greatest in terms of direction and vision.

With Longhorn so close to release now I look forward to hearing/seeing sessions on that. While I am on the beta, I have been having tremendous trouble finding time to work with it at all. Oddly I work for a technology company but I haven’t felt so behind on the upcoming technology since I worked for a company which was basically a bank back in the late 90’s. You, or at least I, generally expect banks to be way behind the 8-ball for tech, they are so conservative and cheap they refuse to spend money on anything.  You, or at least I, don’t expect that out of a technology company. Officially we still aren’t allowed to use IE7… Don’t even think about Vista or Office 2007. All of it unsupported.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing my fellow MVPs (well most of them 🙂 and the Microsoft folks.

Since it is only 5 days and we have pretty full schedules except for the Executive session day[1] I am considering going without my laptop to make traveling a little more lightweight. I haven’t decided yet though. All I know is I have to fly out of the main Detroit terminal (McNamara) which means I need to go really early so I can actually get a parking spot and get through security. Usually I like flying out of the Smith Terminal, it is kind of dungeon like and dated in 60’s dinginess but I can usually park very close and you get through security in like 5 minutes.

I am extremely disappointed about this trip because this is usually when I get to see my friend Dean but he is too busy this year so he won’t be there. Someone needs to invent the teleporter because it seems most all of my friends are spread around the world[2], that way I could pop off and visit them for the afternoon any time I wanted.

[1] I want to see Bill Gates’ keynote and Iain McDonald’s session. The rest of the stuff on the first day I am so so about. The rest of the week should be good hopefully with tech sessions.

[2] What can I say, I seem to like accents… plus it seems it is a very particular type of person who I get along with that also gets along with me.
