Trend Micro does it again…

by @ 12:09 am on 7/6/2007. Filed under tech

For anyone running Trend AV products I have to say a heartfelt “I’m sorry”. Not for anything I have done, but because Trend is reporting CPAU as a virus again with 4.583.02. I came home to _many_ emails describing the problem, thanks to everyone who took the time to write. Several mentioned opening tickets with Trend and I also sent an email to them as well with the history from the last problem so hopefully they will get it fixed ASAP.

Here was the last case with Trend

In my Enterprise, I have 4.585.00 as of this morning, and fortunately, I missed the whole bad update.

    Thanks for the heads-up, Joe.

    My bad.

My testing methodology was flawed; as of pattern 4.586.12 (Controlled Pattern Release), Trend Micro is still detecting CPAU as a generic trojan and deleting it.

  3. Eric says:

Fixed? As of 4.587.00 (7/8/07 pattern release), I am able to download and copy CPAU on to my PC, so looks like issue is fixed.

  4. Andrew from Vancouver says:

Well, still no word from Trend Micro at all, but pattern 4.587.00 is no longer detecting CPAU on my servers when I place a new copy there.

The whatsnew.txt makes no mention of the issue, nor that the specfic detection was modified. The datestamp inside of that file for the new pattern is: July 08, 2007, 15:44:10 (GMT – 08:00)

    Andrew.
