There’s two types of immortality. I cannot see value in that sort. I would hope no one would be searching for the key to it.

I hope you keep your eye on the ball Joe, the statement (“The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering…”)does not seem worthy of you, at least based on what I’ve read elsewhere here. You are better than that.

(To suggest with such a “clever” phrase that one might want to live life in order to be remembered is to pander to a lessor aspect of the psyche. One should live the life that appeals to their inner drives, memorable or not.)

Interesting, I got a couple of responses (others were offline) on this along the same lines of this doesn’t sound like something you would post or are you having an off day??… Interesting to me because it is actually a sig from one of my sister’s emails, not mine. I can’t say I would use it as one of my sigs but I don’t see it as bad. I think of it as “do things you would be proud to be known for” so they are worth remembering.

Certainly I am very much aligned with do what makes you happy. It used to be do what makes you happy as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else but I wonder anymore if it should just be do what makes you happy and others can do the same (a la Illusions: Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah from Richard Bach (loved that book when I first read it as a kid and still do)). Of course this isn’t me telling folks to go out and shoot at people, but don’t curb what you think or say based on whether or not someone else will cry if you think or say it. If you say something that someone doesn’t like, they have the choice to be hurt by it or not, don’t take that choice away from them by withholding your thoughts. 🙂

I write the tools that I write and write out the thoughts that I write because it makes me feel good. I share them in the event it could help someone else. I don’t share everything either because it is too personal or something I don’t feel like sharing. I am proud of what I do share and would be happy if someone remembered it and think it is worthy of being remembered.

    🙂

That makes sense (“do things you would be proud to be known for”).

The word “key” is the crux of the matter. Semantically it can be seen to place the emphasis on finding immortality rather than on living well.

It’s not important to me whether anyone remembers me a minute after I’m gone, or for that matter even knows I’m here now.

What matters is to be as true to myself as I can be, to pierce any and all veils of illusion as I find them, and to help others along the way when I can.

Be well, thanks for your software and your philosophy.
