Things have changed…

I recently picked up a DVD of Cinderella. No, not that silly Disney movie… I am talking about a concert DVD for the hard rock band Cinderella. I love their music, great stuff. I saw them in concert in Detroit every time they came to concert from about 1986 or so (I even saw them two nighst in a row with Bon Jovi and it wasn’t Bon Jovi I went to see…) on through the mid-90’s. I loved their music, loved their shows… I had a Cinderella T-Shirt from the first time I saw them in concert that I literally wore to shreds. It either finally evaporated or was tossed out on me; either is as likely an answer. Yes I wore ripped denim and ripped clothes but at no time were those rips from razor blades or knives or purposeful tearing, that was all natural wear and tear. My mom would have beat me if she caught me tearing my clothes.

Anyway Cinderella has amazing melodies and rhythms in their music. Very blues based. Love it.

So I am watching this DVD and I realize, crap that concert is way too familiar, like I remembered scenes of it almost…. Hmm maybe I saw the DVD before and didn’t remember seeing it. But it sure seemed like I was at that concert… Sure enough, Tom Keifer yells out something like Rock on Detroit or something like that and I look on the DVD case and the concert was from their 1991 tour… Very cool.

I found myself comparing the show to some recent shows I have seen… Marilyn Manson, Korn, Linkin Park, BNL… they literally blow Cinderella off the stage for entertainment and excitement. I used to think that Cinderella had the best show ever, now looking back I am not sure if I would have liked it at all had I seen it recently (well except for the great music).

I really liked Linkin Park in concert. I have seen Korn a few times but I didn’t think Jonathan sounded that great but he may have had a bad day.

Metallica still puts on a good show for a band that’s been around 25 years. I also like Green Day in concert, lots of energy with them too.

You can relive the old days again this summer. Cinderalla is on tour

I got the dvd a few days ago. Can’t find any site that will tell me what exact day the 1991 concert was in Detroit. Do you know?

Mike: Thanks on the concert link. I heard that was happening but have found the 80’s rock bands for the most part aren’t holding up as well as one would hope. Especially the ones doing the reunion type tours. I am going to see Korn in September though. I have to say the times I have seen Korn they were amazing.

Kurt: I don’t recall the exact dates, I barely recall last week. I believe it was 2 days in May 1991 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. I actually have the stubs from seeing them the first two times, that was May 29 and May 30 1987 at Joe Louis Arena. $17.50 a ticket. They opened for Bon Jovi promoting Night Songs. I think I saw them on the Long Cold Winter tour in the spring/summer of 1989.

Cinderella still rocks my socks off. Already have tickets for the 3 shows in Florida in August. You need to listen to their music live again. You will change your mind.
